1. Who can play
You must be at least 16 years old to play U STAR. If you're under the age of majority where you live, you confirm that a parent or guardian has agreed to these terms for you. You can't use U STAR if you're barred from doing so under the laws that apply to you, or if we've closed your account before.
2. Your account
- U STAR signs you in with an anonymous player ID linked to the game on your phone. There's no email or password sign-in yet, so if you delete the game or change phones you may not be able to get back into your account. Keep your phone secure: you're responsible for what happens on your account.
- One person, one account. Don't sell, share, lend or transfer your account, and don't use anyone else's.
- Choose a name and handle that follow our Community Guidelines. We may change or remove names and handles that don't.
- You can delete your account at any time in the game: Settings → Delete my account. See Delete your account.
3. What you create
- You keep ownership of what you create in U STAR: your POPit photos, clips, captions, comments, messages, LIVEs and anything else you post or send ("your content").
- The licence you give us. So we can run U STAR, you give EZ Tech a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, copy, display, perform, share and adapt (for example, resize or format) your content within U STAR and on our websites, including POPit share pages at ustar.world, and to feature it in places where we show off U STAR, such as our social channels and the App Store. The licence lasts while your content is posted, and for a reasonable time after it's deleted for backups and to meet legal requirements. You can end it for any piece of content by deleting it, except where it has already been shared by you or others.
- Public by design. POPit posts, your profile and your Star's look can be seen by every player, and anyone with a post's link can view that post on ustar.world. Don't post what you wouldn't want seen.
- You're responsible for your content. Only post what you have the right to share. Only scan your own face. Don't record other people's voices into clips without their permission.
- We don't have to host anything, and we may remove content that breaks these terms or our Community Guidelines, or that we need to remove by law.
- The game itself, including its characters, art, music, software and the U STAR name and logos, belongs to EZ Tech and its licensors. We give you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, revocable licence to use U STAR for your own non-commercial fun under these terms. Clips and photos made in the game may be shared on social media; please don't sell them or use them to imply we endorse you.
4. How to behave
Treat other players with respect. Our Community Guidelines are part of these terms. In short, don't harass, bully, threaten or hate on anyone; don't post sexual content or anything that sexualises minors; don't encourage violence or self-harm; don't share people's private information; don't impersonate, spam or scam; and don't break the law.
5. Fights
Fights in U STAR are in-game and opt-in: a fight only starts if both players agree, and either can walk away. They're between Stars, not people. Nothing in U STAR asks for or encourages real-world violence, and taking an in-game fight into real life breaks these terms.
6. Auditions and events
- We run in-game events such as the U STAR Auditions. Each event's rules (dates, who can enter, the Star Level it needs, how finalists are picked and what the prizes are) are shown in the game and can change before or during the event.
- For the Auditions you enter by posting a tape on POPit at the movie set. Likes from other players rank the tapes (only likes from accounts that meet the event's rules count), finalists are picked from the top, and at the live finale the host decides who's cast.
- Prizes are in-game only, such as a title, Coins, Star Level XP and items. They have no cash value and can't be exchanged, sold or transferred. No purchase is needed to enter or win.
- Entries must be your own performance and follow our Community Guidelines. Faking likes, using extra accounts or any other manipulation can get your entry removed and your account suspended.
- We may pause, change or cancel an event, for example because of a technical problem or abuse.
7. Coins, items and Star Level
- Coins are U STAR's virtual currency. You can earn them by playing (shifts, the daily reward, rewarded ads and events) or buy them in the Shop. Coins and the items you get with them (clothes, sneakers, hairstyles, the boxing class and so on) are a limited, personal licence to use them in U STAR. They aren't your property, have no cash value, and can't be exchanged for money, sold, traded or transferred, inside or outside the game.
- Coins and items are not refundable, except where the law or the App Store's policies say otherwise. If your account is closed or deleted, or U STAR shuts down, unused Coins and items are lost, except where the law requires otherwise.
- Star Level is earned by playing and can't be bought. Only likes and follows from real, active players count toward it, and we may remove XP, Coins or items gained through bugs, cheating, farming accounts or other abuse.
- We may change what Coins buy, prices in Coins and how items and Star Level work, as part of running and balancing the game.
8. Purchases
- Purchases in U STAR are made through the App Store, and Apple's terms and payment rules apply. Prices are shown in the App Store before you buy and may vary by country.
- Our server checks each purchase with Apple's signed record before delivering it. If something you bought doesn't arrive, use Shop → Restore purchases or contact support@ustar.world.
- Refunds are handled by Apple under its policies (you can request one at reportaproblem.apple.com). If Apple refunds a purchase, we may remove what it delivered.
9. Memberships (auto-renewing subscriptions)
- U STAR offers two optional monthly memberships: U STAR Plus (US $4.99 a month: no ads, a double daily reward, a members-only outfit each month that's yours to keep, and member prices on clothes and hairstyles) and Ad-free (US $2.99 a month: no ads in POPit). Prices in other countries are shown in the App Store. Benefits are described in the game's Shop.
- Payment is charged to your Apple ID when you confirm. Memberships renew automatically every month at the then-current price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the period ends.
- To cancel, go to your iPhone's Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions → U STAR, or manage it from your App Store account. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep the benefits until the end of the period you've paid for. Deleting the game or your U STAR account does not cancel a membership.
- If we change a membership's price or benefits, we'll tell you in advance as Apple's rules require, and you can cancel before the change applies to you.
10. Rewarded ads
Rewarded ads are optional. If you choose to watch one, you get the reward shown before it plays once Google confirms to our server that you watched it to the end. Daily limits apply, rewards for ads that weren't finished aren't given, and we may change what ads pay or turn them off.
11. Fair play
Don't cheat. That means no hacks, bots, scripts, modified game files, exploits of bugs, or tools that interfere with the game, its servers or other players; no creating accounts to farm likes, follows or rewards; no buying, selling or trading accounts, Coins or items for real money; and no trying to get into accounts or systems that aren't yours. If you find a bug that gives you an advantage, please report it to support@ustar.world instead of using it.
12. Moderation and enforcement
- You can report posts and players, and block or mute anyone. A post reported by several different players is hidden automatically until it's reviewed.
- If you break these terms or our Community Guidelines, we may remove content, reset progress gained unfairly, limit features (such as voice or posting), suspend your account or close it, depending on what happened and how serious it is. Where the law requires, we'll tell you what we did and why.
- If you think we got it wrong, email support@ustar.world with your Player ID and we'll take another look.
- We may report illegal content or threats to the authorities.
13. A live game
U STAR is a live, online game. We may add, change or remove features, content, events and items, and some features (such as voice chat, LIVE or posting) may be switched off for a while for safety, cost or technical reasons. The game needs an internet connection. We don't promise that U STAR or any feature will always be available, and we may stop offering U STAR; if we shut it down, we'll give reasonable notice in the game.
14. Ending these terms
You can stop playing and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or close your account if you break these terms, if the law requires it, or if we stop offering U STAR. Sections that by their nature should survive (such as the licence to content already shared, the limits on liability and how disputes work) continue after these terms end.
15. Disclaimers
U STAR is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don't promise the game will be uninterrupted, error-free or free of harmful content from other players, and we aren't responsible for what other players say or do. Some places don't allow these disclaimers, so they may not all apply to you.
16. Limits on liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, EZ Tech and its members, employees and partners won't be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data or goodwill, arising from or related to U STAR. Our total liability for any claim relating to U STAR is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and US $50. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law, such as for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
You agree to compensate EZ Tech for claims by others arising from content you post or your breach of these terms, to the extent the law allows.
17. Disputes and governing law
If you have a problem with U STAR, please contact support@ustar.world first: most things can be sorted out quickly. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Georgia, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute that isn't resolved informally will be decided by the state or federal courts located in Georgia, USA, and you and we agree to their jurisdiction, except that either of us may bring a claim in small claims court where it qualifies. If you're a consumer living outside the United States, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live and may bring proceedings there.
18. Apple
If you downloaded U STAR from the App Store, you also agree that:
- These terms are between you and EZ Tech only, not Apple. EZ Tech, not Apple, is solely responsible for U STAR and its content.
- Your licence to use U STAR is limited to Apple-branded devices you own or control, as permitted by the App Store's Usage Rules.
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for U STAR.
- If U STAR fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any) for U STAR; to the maximum extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation for U STAR.
- EZ Tech, not Apple, is responsible for addressing any claims about U STAR, including product liability claims, claims that it fails to meet legal or regulatory requirements, and consumer protection or privacy claims.
- If a third party claims that U STAR or your use of it infringes their intellectual property rights, EZ Tech, not Apple, is responsible for the investigation, defence, settlement and discharge of that claim.
- You confirm that you're not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you're not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- You must comply with any third-party terms (such as your mobile carrier's) that apply when you use U STAR.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and, once you accept them, can enforce them against you.
19. General
- We may update these terms. We'll change the date at the top and, if a change is significant, tell you in the game before it takes effect. If you keep playing after it takes effect, you accept the updated terms.
- If any part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies. If we don't enforce a part right away, we haven't given up the right to.
- You can't transfer these terms to anyone else. We may transfer them as part of a merger, sale or reorganisation of our business.
- These terms, the Community Guidelines and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about U STAR.
